The name of the brand consists of the first and the last syllable of the owner's name Primož Kumar. It also indicates that we serve the primary needs with our beverages and food products, which boast natural, primary tastes, and prime quality.
Our logo depicts a circle, representing a plate, within it a glass, which represents our main product – wine, and next to it a cherry, which is valued very high in our region, and an olive, which is becoming more and more important.
History
Family Estate Kumar has one of the longest traditions in Brda/Collio region, which is recognised as one of the best wine regions globally. Our vineyards are located around Šmartno and Imenje, in the centre of Brda, with prime wine-growing conditions.
Grandfather of the owner Primož has purchased the majority of the vineyards in the period between the first and the second World War. After the WW2 everyone had to join the Zadruga Brda cooperative cellar, but we have always made some wine ourselves, thus continuing the tradition and passing the knowledge and technology. Primož took over the estate in 2009. We have never used artificial fertilizers or herbicides, and officially started organic farming in 2012.
The estate owns 4.5ha of vineyards, several hundred cherry and olive trees, and a few other fruits. We are the biggest estate next to Šmartno, which is also the tourist centre of Brda.
Our vineyards on the terraces of flysch hills require a lot of hard work, but they reward us with the prime quality of the wine. This has been confirmed also at the Decanter World Wine Awards 2016, where our premium wine Jantar 2014 won the silver medal.
